Dayot Upamecano and Kingsley Coman fell at the penultimate hurdle of Euro 2024 with a 2-1 semi-final loss to Spain at their home ground in Munich on Tuesday. Central defender Upamecano once again started for Didier Deschamps’ side, while Coman remained an unused substitute.

Spain come from behind
France struck with their first chance of the game when Randal Kolo Muani headed in a Kylian Mbappé cross with only nine minutes gone. Spain had a quick response, however, when 16-year-old Yamine Lamal curled in a shot from 20 yards with 21 minutes on the clock. The Spanish turnaround was then complete only four minutes later when Dani Olmo fired home via Jules Koundé’s foot.
Les Bleus came out more in the second half but weren’t able to create enough pressure to breakthrough Spain’s defences. Upamecano had an opportunity just after the hour mark but headed narrowly wide. La Roja will now face the winner of Wednesday’s second semi-final between the Netherlands and England in Sunday’s final in Berlin.
