Despite the ongoing conflict in Sudan, Tanzania has granted permission for the Sudanese football club Al Hilal to participate in its premier league.
Starting in August, Al Hilal will join the Tanzania Mainland Premier League under certain stipulations. Notably, they will be ineligible to win the league, and their matches will be considered friendlies, as reported by the AFP news agency.
Furthermore, Ndimbo noted that Sudanese referees currently in Tanzania would have the opportunity to officiate matches during Al Hilal’s participation. This collaboration presents a chance for Tanzanian clubs to learn from one of Africa’s football powerhouses and contribute to the growth and promotion of the domestic league.
The decision to join the Tanzanian league comes amidst the suspension of sports activities in Sudan due to the ongoing conflict, which has resulted in significant casualties and displacement since April 2023.
