West Ham United would demand over £30 million to sell Nayef Aguerd and are aware of possible interest from Saudi Arabia.
According to Football Insider, West Ham United will be looking to cash in on Nayef Aguerd this summer, as he’s no longer needed at the club. The Moroccan international has three years left to run on his current deal, with the hammers set to demand more than £30 million to sell the 28-year-old first-team star.
West Ham United failed to entertain offers for Nayerf Aguerd last summer when they felt they needed the defender, as his departure would have weakened them. Late in that summer window, Saudi Pro League clubs were keen on a centre-back with top qualities, which included the Moroccan international, although it was too late for the Hammers to consider.
West Ham are bracing for another late Saudi interest, although this time they are prepared to cash in on Aguerd. Having only signed him two years ago in a £30 million deal, the Hammers are set to demand more than that in this current window, with the report stating they have placed a £35 million asking price.
They may have tried using Aguerd in a deal for Jean-Clair Rodibo, but so far, they have not managed to agree to terms with OGC Nice and the player. Either way, they do not see a future for the Moroccan international, who still has three years to run on his existing deal at the London Stadium.
The 28-year-old first-team star may also have wanted to leave the club and was reportedly ready to return to France, where he is more comfortable. With the arrival of Julen Lopetegui, the Spaniard is concerned about the state of the team’s defensive setup and may not include Aguerd.
West Ham to reinvest Aguerd money
As seen with their intention to use Aguerd in a deal for Todibo, West Ham is eager to use the money from the Moroccans’ sale to improve their first team. They have already signed Max Kilman from Wolves, and Aguerd’s sale will allow them to offset the £40 million they paid for the English defender.
Hence, they are adamant about their asking price for the 28-year-old first-team star ahead of the summer, knowing that Saudi clubs have the capacity to pay up. Should they receive £35 million or so for Aguerd, the money will go straight back into the first team, which does require further addition in defence and other areas.
