Inter Milan has emerged as‍ a potential suitor for German defender Jonathan Tah, who could be available for free next summer. However, the Nerazzurri will encounter stiff competition from several other prestigious clubs.
The search for defensive reinforcements is pivotal for Inter as some of their veteran defenders are nearing the end of their careers—most notably Francesco Acerbi (36), Matteo Darmian (34), and Stefan De; Vrij (32).
Why Inter Milan is Targeting Jonathan Tah
The versatile defender counts nearly ten years at Bayer Leverkusen under his belt, having made 264 appearances in the Bundesliga and scoring 13 goals along the way. Additionally, he has represented Germany on 38 occasions.
Tah’s physical attributes and playing style align well with Inter’s needs. As a right-footed player, he would complement Alessandro Bastoni without disrupting his established role on the left side of defense. Standing tall and possessing considerable strength makes him an imposing figure on the field—and at just 28 years old, he’s likely to adapt quickly to new systems.
His experience within a three-man defense at Leverkusen should also facilitate an easier transition into Simone Inzaghi’s preferred 3-5-2 formation compared to transitioning into similar roles in other elite European clubs.
The prospect of acquiring Tah without any transfer fee adds further appeal for Inter Milan; they have successfully signed players like Marcus Thuram and Hakan Calhanoglu recently under similar circumstances.
Reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport suggest that personnel involved in facilitating Benjamin Pavard’s transfer are now turning their focus toward securing a deal for Tah as well.
Bayern Munich and Liverpool are among other top-tier teams reportedly keeping tabs on Tah’s situation as well.
