Euro 2024: Griezmann admits Spain were better than France in every way – 101 Great Goals

Antoine Griezmann says Spain were better than France in every capacity following their Euro 2024 semi-final defeat.

Les Bleus’ journey ended at the hands of Luis de la Fuente’s men on Tuesday night, meaning their wait for another European Championship goes on.

France went 1-0 up early on through Randal Kolo Muani but were pegged back by two magnificent goals from 16-year-old Lamine Yamal and Dani Olmo.

Kylian Mbappe did his best to try and drag his side back into the game, but it was a real struggle when the pressure was on in Munich.

Rodri’s composure in midfield helped Spain maintain their possession-based style of play, making it difficult for France to respond.

That was something Griezmann admitted to after the match and he admitted there are no excuses for the performance.

Speaking to Telefoot, he said: “They were better than us. We knew they could hit the ball well from distance and we let them shoot from distance.

“We knew Lamine is left-footed and we let him hit it with his left foot. The equaliser hurt us and the second goal four minutes later killed us.

“That’s football, we lacked that today. It was our strong point from the start but we lost against a strong Spain.

“No excuses about having legs cut off or anything, they played extra time too. They were better in everything.”

Griezmann may have played his last major tournament with France.

The Atletico Madrid man will be 35 by the time the 2026 World Cup rolls around and he may not be considered unless he can maintain his current club form.

France will want to regroup and challenge once again for the Jules Rimet trophy after losing on penalties to Argentina in the 2022 final.
