Newcastle United are now fully focused on bringing more new signings to the club after a dramatic transfer window so far. The Magpies have already made four signings with Lewis Hall’s loan deal from Chelsea confirmed as a permanent one on July 1. He joined new boys Lloyd Kelly, Odysseas Vlachodimos and John Ruddy as the squad prepares for pre-season training.

There have been two big-money exits, of course, with Elliot Anderson joining Nottingham Forest and Yankuba Minteh making the move to Brighton and Hove Albion. Both deals eased fears of any PSR issues and allowed Newcastle to focus on incoming transfers.

The Magpies have been linked with several right-sided attacking forwards with a host of names already on the radar. There could be more departures too, with interest in Miguel Almiron and Callum Wilson.

We’ll keep on top of all the latest Newcastle transfer news right here, with live updates as they happen each and every day.

Shearer on Southgate

Newcastle United legend, and former England captain Alan Shearer, is in no doubt Gareth Southgate “should be applauded for everything that he has done” after leaving his role with the national side today.

Shearer, who was part of the England squad with Southgate which reached the semi-finals at Euro 96, said to BBC Sport:

“He has taken England from rock bottom after that Iceland result in 2016 to a semi-final and finals.

“We said during this Euros they might not have played as well as they could have, but the atmosphere he has created helped them through to another final.

“In the bigger picture, Gareth should be applauded for everything he has done with England. The expectation is now you have to get to finals and win trophies.”

Serhou Guirassy

One-time Newcastle United target Serhou Guirassy will join Borussia Dortmund from Bundesliga rivals Stuttgart, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The striker has been much in demand after hitting the goal trail last season, with Dortmund triggering €17.5m release clause.

Calvert-Lewin

West Ham could be ready to make a bid for Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin – if they lower the £40m asking price.

Newcastle were close to a deal for the striker last month, but pulled out due to Everton’s demands. The Hammers had been linked with United’s Callum Wilson, but could turn their attentions to Calvert-Lewin should they find some flexibility on the price.

Kieran Trippier

Newcastle United defender Kieran Trippier was the subject of interest from Bayern Munich in the January transfer window, and there is more interest this summer.

Lee Ryder reports here how clubs in Saudi Arabia could be set to make a move for the full-back, who started six games for England at EURO24. More details here.

Southgate’s next job?

With all the talk of Eddie Howe linked to the England role, Gareth Southgate’s next job has been somewhat overlooked. Perhaps because of those Howe links, the former England manager is predicted to join . . . Newcastle!

England ‘will approach Klopp’

Former Newcastle United and Liverpool midfielder Didi Hamann has named the man he wants to see replace Gareth Southgate . . . and it’s not Eddie Howe. He told TopOffshoreSportsBooks:

“Jurgen Klopp wants to take a year off and the German national team manager role is taken, but I’m pretty sure England will approach Klopp. I think a lot of people would be very happy if he were to take over the national team. He said he’s taking a sabbatical so is it possible to wait for six months or maybe let him take over next summer?

“There are a few qualifiers but qualifying has always been pretty comfortable for England. I think they will ask him whether he wants to do it and then it’s up to him whether he would accept it or not, Thomas Tuchel might be interested as well.

“Years ago it would have been hard to imagine a German manager in England but the chances have never been better than it’s going to happen in the next few months.

“On paper, Jurgen Klopp is best placed to lead England to World Cup glory in 2026 because of what he did at Liverpool. He managed to win the Premier League and two Champions League titles, with the squad he had he did wonderful things.

“I think with the squad England have got now and also the age of the players, I think they’ll be a force for the next two or three tournaments. Obviously the next World Cup is in two years’ time. It’s certainly something which could get England fans dreaming.”

Eddie Howe backed

Former England and Liverpool striker Emile Heskey has joined the calls for Eddie Howe to become the next England manager. He told OLBG:

Eddie Howe for me. What I will say is being an international manager is very, very difficult, especially if you’ve been a club manager for so long, because being a club manager, you’ve got them 24/7 all the time. You’re moulding them into what you want. Now you’re taking different philosophies from all different parts of the world and the country and you’ve got to bring them all together.

As a coach, you’re always thinking on the field, on the field, on the field, but after the time, after them are not going to be on the field because they’ve come from their club, they’ve played on the Sunday, played on the Monday, you’ve got a game on the Friday. How do you get them in with the way that you train in? You might only get them for one training session, one real training session. So it’s going to be, it’s very, very challenging as an international manager.

That’s something new to Eddie but he’s very meticulous on the training field and making sure his players understand what he wants and going through it in routine, routine, routine. And then having them for 10 days or just seven days and trying to get them to understand what you want is very difficult.

Gareth Southgate

Gareth Southgate has stood down as England manager, saying it is time for a “new chapter” for the national team.

He announced his decision to quit in a statement issued by the Football Association on Tuesday morning, following the team’s defeat to Spain in the Euro 2024 final on Sunday night.

“As a proud Englishman, it has been the honour of my life to play for England and to manage England. It has meant everything to me, and I have given it my all,” he said in a statement.

“But it’s time for change, and for a new chapter. Sunday’s final in Berlin against Spain was my final game as England manager.”

Trippier admission

Newcastle United defender Kieran Trippier says the England squad gave everything at EURO24 and says fitness is not an excuse as to why they lost the final to Spain. Trippier started every game until he was replaced in the starting line-up by Luke Shaw for the final.

“Football is all about fine margins. It’s one of those where the lads gave everything. The team that we’ve got is fit. If you see the running stats, I think we’re probably the highest in the whole tournament. So that’s not at excuse.

“They get the second goal and it’s always difficult when you’re chasing the game against a team like Spain.”

Newcastle Untied face Yokohama F Marinos in a friendly game on August 3 – but according to reports, the Japanese side will have a new manager.

Former Leeds United forward Harry Kewell has reportedly been sacked from his role as manager of the J-League side with Marinos languishing in mid-table.

Willy Gnonto

Newcastle have been linked with a second Leeds United star, according the TeamTalk. After being credited with interest in Crysencio Summervile, the Magpies are now reportedly monitoring Italian youngster Willy Gnonto.

The right winger could be available for around £25m – a cheap alternative to some of the names United have been linked with. The 20-year-old scored nine goals for Leeds last season, with Everton also interested.

Transfer window Next stage

Newcastle United are now ready to crack on with the second stage of this summer’s transfer window following behind-the-scenes restructures.

Director of football Paul Mitchell and performance director James Bunce are now place, with Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi having left the club, with CEO Darren Eales set to crank up Unted’s transfer activity.

Newcastle were linked with several big names over the weekend and, as Lee Ryder reports here, plans are in place for progress.

More Gnabry links

After yesterday’s reports that Newcastle could move for Bayern Munich’s Serge Gnabry, more news from Germany suggests the winger could be surplus to requirments at the Bundesliga giants.

United are said to be willing to pay around £40m for the German international, who is apparently reluctant to leave Bayern. However, his chances of first-team football dropped even further when his club signed Michael Olise from Crystal Palace earlier this month, and he could be ‘encouraged’ to move on.

Nico Williams

Barcelona are ready to make their move for Spain’s EURO24 hero Nico Williams, according to Fabriizio Romano. Premier League clubs, including Newcastle, have been linked with the Athletic Bilbao winger, but Catalan giants Barca are set to make an offer.

Squad heads to Germany

Newcastle United’s squad is heading over to Germany for the start of their training game at the Adidas headquarters. The squad will spend the week in Herzogenaurach to use the facilities the German national side employed during Euro24.

There are no games plans while they are away, with Newcastle’s first pre-season friendly against Hull City on July 27.

Bench value

How much could Newcastle United’s bench be worth next season? After the injury issues which dogged the last campaign, Eddie Howe will be hoping for a stronger squad this time around.

Even without any marquee signings, there could still be almost £200m worth of talent in reserve next season – and if they add to their squad that figure is only likely to grow.

We’ve taken a look at how a potential £210m bench could look here.

Gordon stays, key signings and Newcastle United’s six-point target for summer transfer window

All right, let us set Newcastle United a six-point target to achieve before the end of next month. What I want to see by September 1 is Anthony Gordon, Bruno Guimaraes and Alexander Isak still happily in black-and-white stripes. That is crucial. Next I wish for them to be joined by a new outside-right, right sided centre-half, and a centre-forward.

Get all that done in this transfer window and United will be cooking on gas. They will have the armoury to have a genuine tilt at making the top four once again and returning to the Champions League. We will all be positive and shooting for the stars will not be merely a dream but reality.

Geordies have endured a tumultuous few weeks culminating in an emotional farewell to Amanda Staveley and husband Mehrdad Ghodoussi. but it is possible to turn any negativity into positivity.

Arsenal offer Newcastle favourite ‘contract of a lifetime’ as they look for next transfer

Newcastle United fans will be excused for thinking what could have been when they watch Mikel Merino line up for Spain in tonight’s EURO 2024 final against England at Berlin’s Olympiastadion.

Merino, of course, spent the 2017/18 season on Tyneside, initially joining on loan from Borussia Dortmund before the move was made permanent, and quickly became a fan favourite at St James’ Park under Rafa Benitez.

He left the club after one season, though, citing homesickness and returned to his native Spain to join Real Sociedad and he has since gone from strength to strength.

In his six seasons with La Real, he has become on the club’s key players and helped his side win the Copa Del Rey in 2020, while also establishing himself as a regular in the Spanish national squad.

His goal in the quarter-finals of EURO 2024 sealed a dramatic extra time win over the host nation Germany and it seems as if those performances have caught the attention of Arsenal.

Merino, who is out of contract next summer, has been targeted by the Premier League giants and a report from Mundo Deportivo claims they are ready to offer the 28-year-old the ‘contract of a lifetime’ to join them this summer.

From paranoia and being trolled to Euro 2024 final – Inside Anthony Gordon’s remarkable rise

Anthony Gordon was accused by some sections of the media of “not living up to his price tag” just 11 months before he won his first England call-up.

As recently as April 2023, Gordon’s hopes of being a first-team starter at Newcastle United looked doubtful let alone being at Euro 2024. An angry flare-up in the dugout at Brentford saw the Liverpool-born star appear to shove Eddie Howe with Gordon in the headlines for the wrong reasons.

After walking through the mixed zone attempts to get an interview from Gordon were met with a firm and emphatic: “No”. Yet things seemed to go from bad to worse for Gordon as he missed a one-on-one opportunity before being dragged off at half-time against Southampton, a game that Newcastle won but the winger failed to impress in.

Mehrdad Ghodoussi makes emotional goodbye to Newcastle United but leaves with exciting message

Newcastle United departing director Mehrdad Ghodoussi has insisted that the club remains in great hands despite a turbulent week on Tyneside.

In an emotional farewell, the director said:

“I just want to say a huge thank you to the fans and the city for embracing Amanda and me with such open arms.

“Your passion and support have made this journey truly unforgettable. You have played such an important role in our lives these last few years, and nothing will take those memories away.

“Newcastle will always have a special place in our hearts, and we will cherish our time there forever. I’d like to thank Eddie Howe, the coaching staff, the players, and of course our chairman, Yasir, and the PIF team, Jamie, and the rest of the Reuben family for being such great partners.

“Finally, I’ve seen all your messages, and I’m so grateful to each and every one of you. I’ll always be a supporter and a proud member of the Toon Army. I will love and remember you all forever, and I know the club will keep achieving great things with your amazing support.”

Crysencio Summerville latest

The Mirror report:

Crysencio Summerville is set for a Premier League return next season. The £40million-rated Leeds winger is weighing up his future, with Newcastle United, Aston Villa and Crystal Palace all eyeing the Dutchman.

Summerville will be allowed to leave Elland Road, following the club’s failure to win promotion from the Championship last season.

Despite Leeds already cashing in with Archie Gray’s big-money exit to Tottenham, Summerville is likely to depart. Paris Saint-Germain had registered an interest, but the Prem trio are now pushing for him. Palace have the funds to spend, following Michael Olise’s recent £50m transfer to Bayern Munich.

England team leaked as Kieran Trippier learns Gareth Southgate decision for EURO 2024 final

England manager Gareth Southgate is set to name an unchanged starting XI for this evening’s EURO 2024 final against Spain at Berlin’s Olympiastadion.

The Telegraph report Southgate is set to stick with the same team that started Wednesday’s 2-1 semi-final win over the Netherlands, meaning Newcastle United defender Kieran Trippier will retain his place at left-wing-back.

Trippier has started all six of England’s games en route to the final, deputising for usual left-back Luke Shaw in the starting XI, who start the competition nursing an injury.

However, Shaw has returned to fitness and managed 42 minutes and 45 minutes from the bench in the wins over Switzerland and the Netherlands respectively.

As such, it left Southgate with a decision to make over whether he preferred to start with the naturally left-sided Manchester United defender or keep faith with Trippier.

And it appears he will do the latter as he bids to become the first Three Lions manager to win a European Championship, as well as the first England boss to win a major tournament on foreign soil.
