Kimmich leaning toward City move (Anfield Index)

As the tension and speculation ramps up regarding a possible move away from Bayern Munich for Joshua Kimmich, stories are emerging on where he might land.

While Arsenal FC and Liverpool FC admire Kimmich, the Germany international might really only have eyes for Pep Guardiola and Manchester City:

In the latest twist of the summer transfer saga, Joshua Kimmich’s future appears to be veering away from Arsenal and Liverpool. According to Archie Griggs from the Express, the versatile Bayern Munich star has set his sights on a move to Manchester City. This decision significantly impacts the transfer plans of the Premier League’s top clubs.

Kimmich’s versatility is a significant asset for Manchester City. His ability to play in various positions, from central midfield to right-back, makes him a perfect fit for Guardiola’s tactical flexibility. This potential transfer, reportedly valued at around £30 million, could be a strategic move for City, providing depth and experience to an already formidable squad.

PSG also in mix for De Ligt (PSG Talk)

It is probably a long shot (a looooooooong shot to be certain), but Paris Saint-Germain is reportedly throwing its hat into the ring for Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt:

Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt might be on the move this summer, with his name frequently popping up in transfer rumors. The 24-year-old Dutch international is reportedly a target for Paris Saint-Germain, who are looking to strengthen their defense.

Earlier this month, RMC Sport reported that PSG are targeting the Bayern Munich center-back, under contract until 2027, as a key addition to their defense. However, Manchester United appears to have an edge over the Parisians as they look to secure the former Ajax standout.

The latest information comes from Sky Sport Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, who reports that the Bundesliga side have set their price on de Ligt. According to Plettenberg, Bayern Munich demands at least €50 million plus bonus payments for the Dutch defender.

Bavarian Podcast Works: Weekend Warm-up Show Season 3, Episode 51 (Bavarian Football Works)

Germany is in the EURO 2024 quarterfinals. Bayern Munich seems like it might torch some key players on its roster, and we are sitting here wondering why it just can’t all come together on both fronts to make for a smooth and seamless summer!

That is never the way, but it is also why we are here doing this podcast, so let’s get cracking with a look at what is on tap for this episode of the Bavarian Podcast Works — Weekend Warm-up Show:

Early thoughts on Germany vs. Spain at EURO 2024. Matthijs de Ligt looks like he is headed to Manchester United. Bayern Munich has agreed on personal terms with Xavi Simons, but that does not mean a deal is imminent. Arijon Ibrahimović re-upped with Bayern Munich and will be on the first team, but with what role? Bayern Munich could be asking Joshua Kimmich to take a 15% pay decrease. Would he do it? Does he even fit into Vincent Kompany’s plans? A shout to an upstart Bayern Munich fan club in Louisville, Kentucky (@MiaSanLou on X).

Pavard shuns Saudis (@FabrizioRomano)

Former Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard received offers from Saudi Arabia, but does not want to leave Italy:

Contrary to popular belief, Eintracht not pursuing Beste (@Plettigoal)

Despite reports, Eintracht Frankfurt is not in pursuit of Heidenheim attacker Jan-Niklas Beste:

Simons to make decision after EUROs (PSG Talk)

Paris Saint-Germain attacker Xavi Simons will make a decision on his next move after the EUROs are over:

Xavi Simons intends to make a decision on his future after UEFA Euro 2024. Reports suggest he will not extend his stay at Paris Saint-Germain, and several leading European clubs have shown interest in signing him this summer. Recently, L’Equipe reported that several clubs, including Arsenal, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Manchester United, and Manchester City, have contacted PSG to explore the possibility of signing Simons.

Additionally, Florian Plettenberg from Sky Sport Germany mentioned that Bayern Munich is preparing a loan proposal with an obligation clause to secure Simons for a transfer fee ranging from €60 million to €70 million. If PSG does engage in talks with Bayern Munich over selling Simons to the German giants, CBS Sports’ Jonathan Johnson notes that the capital club should think long and hard about this potential transfer.

“With regards to Bayern, I’d be very wary,” Johnson said on the latest episode of PSG Talking. “I think the only way it makes sense to even consider doing a deal with Bayern for Xavi Simons is if PSG are potentially getting a very useful player in return. Now there’s been some speculation about Kingsley Coman. Given Coman’s physical difficulties the last couple of years, I’d say that that was a risk.

“But there are other players in that Bayern squad that PSG could look to potentially negotiate for. You’ve got Mathys Tel, who while he’s behind Harry Kane and not getting the minutes that he wants would be a very interesting kind of profile for PSG to have a discussion about, you know, French, you know, up-and-coming talent and one who looks to be on the cusp of breaking through at senior level. There’s a couple of options in the midfield as well. We’ve seen PSG link with the likes of [Joshua] Kimmich over the last couple of years. So I think only once every possibility has been exhausted with Xavi Simons in terms of trying to convince him that his future lies in Paris. Only at that point do you potentially consider negotiating with Bayern to get maybe cash plus a player for Simons because Simons stock at this moment in time, especially if the Netherlands continue to make a deep run at the Euro this summer, it is very high.”

During his loan spell at RB Leipzig, Simons made a significant impact, featuring in 43 matches across all competitions, scoring 10 goals and registering 15 assists.

Fabrizio Romano also provided his take on the situation:

Xavi Simons plans remain clear: final decision on new club will be only after the Euros.

Bayern are calling on daily basis with director Max Eberl pushing, RB Leipzig also keep insisting. Race still open.

↪️ In any case, as said since April, it will be loan from PSG. pic.twitter.com/r7jTWRSdap
