Kylian Mbappe’s unveiling at the Spanish capital bore a striking resemblance to the Portuguese icon’s presentation in 2009.
Kylian Mbappe’s official presentation at Real Madrid has sent fans on a nostalgia trip. The all-time leading La Liga winners unveiled the French footballer in front of thousands of supporters at the iconic Santiago Bernabeu.
During the presentation event on July 16, Mbappe received a Cristiano Ronaldo-style treatment from the club’s management. His unveiling at the Spanish capital bore a striking resemblance to the Portuguese icon’s presentation in 2009.
What shocked the fans more was that Mbappe even raised his arms and kissed the club badge similar to what Ronaldo did more than a decade ago. It prompted a reaction from a fan page who compared both the events in a collage on X.
“Kylian Mbappe definitely watched Cristiano Ronaldo’s presentation last night,” read the post.
Several fans have now reacted to the post claiming Kylian Mbappe was certainly inspired by Cristiano Ronaldo’s decades-old presentation at Real Madrid. “Kylian Mbappe is attentive to details concerning Cristiano Ronaldo,” one wrote.
Another jokingly said, “Copy paste lmao, even the arm movement.”
Kylian Mbappe’s love and admiration for Cristiano Ronaldo isn’t unheard of. The young French talent grew up admiring the Portuguese icon with the hopes of replicating the five-time Ballon d’Or winner’s career.
Following in his idol’s footsteps, Kylian Mbappe also took up the number 9 shirt at Real Madrid like Ronaldo did in 2009. During the Portuguese forward’s arrival to Spain, club icon Raul wore the number 7 jersey for the Whites. Ronaldo had to wait until the 2010/11 season before getting his desired number. Similarly, Vinicius Junior currently plays in the number 7 jersey at Real Madrid.
Speaking about his dream of playing for the Los Blancos, Kylian Mbappe said as per ESPN, “Since I was a kid I had one dream, to play here. Being here means a lot to me…Now I want to achieve another dream, being at the level of this club, the best in the world. I can say one thing: I’ll give everything for this club and this badge.” He even did the ‘Hala Madrid’ cheer in the classic Ronaldo fashion.
Having failed to lift the UEFA Champions League in numerous locations, Kylian Mbappe finally decided to move to Real Madrid on a free transfer, as he visited Real Madrid’s Valdebebas training ground to officially put his signature on the contract.
