Nuno’s biggest transfer fear remains whilst Nottingham Forest promotion hero is told fate – Nottinghamshire Live

Nottingham Forest have hit a precarious time in the summer transfer window, with focus seemingly shifting towards the next chapter.

Nuno Espirito Santo spoke of his desire for more signings before deadline day. “We have some (signings) and the squad is not closed yet. We still have aspects to decide,” he said. “We are working with players who have been on loan; we have to have a good look at them and make the right decisions for them.”

The manager equally stated the importance of keeping those currently at the club – proving the focus is now directly on the season’s start in one month’s time rather than any financial implications that may have influenced a flurry of business already this summer.

With that said, Nottinghamshire Live brings you the latest from the City Ground on this busy week of news and transfer gossip…

Magpies persist with Anthony Elanga

According to The Athletic, Newcastle United still retain their interest in Forest winger Anthony Elanga.

At the end of June when both clubs were racing to comply with Premier League Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), discussions took place over winger’s move to Tyneside for a fee, whilst simultaneously Yankuba Minteh would have moved the opposite way in similar circumstances. Nothing came of this as it turned out, with Forest selling other assets instead whilst Minteh moved to Brighton anyway.

However, events have only heightened Newcastle’s need to strengthen the right side of their attack and so Elanga remains on their radar. Alternatively, Chelsea’s Noni Madueke and West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen have been internally discussed.

Nottinghamshire Live says: This is not what Forest need with pre-season preparations underway. Nuno comment of additions being needed, especially wingers, is fact, so allowing one to leave no matter the fee seems entirely counter productive. Elanga has also proven himself a capable player at Premier League in his first campaign with Forest whereas a replacement will need time to adjust, learn the system, get up to speed with the top-flight and so on. These things would start the club off on the back foot and Forest do not need another relegation battle.

Djed Spence on the move

Djed Spence is likely to leave Tottenham Hotspur for good this summer.

The former City Ground promotion hero sealed a move to North London when his Forest loan elapsed two years ago, which turned out to be a grave mistake. He was dismissed by his coaches and sent out on loan, last season to Genoa, where a permanent move recently fell through.

Now the same report that outlines Elanga’s situation from The Athletic explains that the full-back is one of a few names Ange Postecoglou and Co will most certainly move on before September’s deadline day – there is just no hint yet as to where that could be.

Nottinghamshire Live says: It is a shame to see what has happened to a player that was so evidently ready to make the step up with Steve Cooper’s side two years ago. Hopefully he finds is right team and flourishes, but with the landscape much different to how it was when promotion was first won, it doesn’t appear that a City Ground return should be on the cards. Forest have Neco Williams now, and he can hold down that position for many years to come.
