Sports FIFA Investigates Racist Chants By Argentina Players After Copa America – thewillnews.com

July 17, (THEWILL) – FIFA has launched an investigation into racist chants made by Argentina players, following their Copa America victory over Colombia in Miami.

The chants were heard in a live video posted on social media by Chelsea midfielder, Enzo Fernandez, from the team bus. The chants, dating back to the 2022 World Cup final, target French striker, Kylian Mbappe and include homophobic insults.

FIFA strongly condemns any form of discrimination and is looking into the incident. The French Football Federation has filed a complaint with FIFA regarding the chants.

Chelsea Football Club has initiated an internal disciplinary procedure against Fernandez, who has since apologised for his involvement. The club stated that they find all forms of discriminatory behaviour unacceptable and will use this opportunity to educate their player.

The incident has sparked controversy in the football world, with Chelsea defender, Wesley Fofana, labelling the video as “uninhibited racism”. The investigation comes amidst other Copa América-related issues, including criticism of the tournament’s organisation and the sacking of Mexico’s coach Jaime Lozano.
