Boca Juniors Secures Spot in 2025 Club World Cup
The Boca Juniors have officially qualified for the 2025 Club World Cup, which will bring together 32 teams in the United States from June 15th to July 13th next year. This spot was secured through the rankings after São Paulo eliminated Nacional-URU in the CONMEBOL Libertadores round of sixteen. The Tricolor secured a victory against Uruguayans with a score of 2-0 at Morumbis.
Ranked sixth with a total of 71 points, Boca Juniors’ position could only have been overtaken by Nacional, who were left with 57 points following their elimination by São Paulo.
In light of this qualification, FIFA President Gianni Infantino took to social media offering congratulations and good wishes to Club Atlético Boca Juniors for securing a place in the new FIFA Club World Cup next year.
With only two spots left for the tournament, one being designated for a representative from the host country and another reserved for the Libertadores champion, South America will have a total of six representatives: four Libertadores titleholders (from 2021 to 2024) and two through rankings. As far as champions go, Palmeiras, Flamengo and Fluminense have already secured their spots as winners of their respective tournaments over recent years.
Additionally, River Plate – also an Argentine club – is still contending for the title in 2024 and is guaranteed placement via ranking as they cannot be surpassed anymore. In case River Plate or any other Brazilian team wins this edition of Libertadores championship then an additional spot will be made available.
Several clubs internationally have already qualified based on various regional championships such as Champions League and others listed below:
– Al Ahly (Egypt) – African Champions League winners
– Wydad (Morocco)
- Al Hilal (Saudi Arabia)
– Urawa Red Diamonds (Japan)
– Auckland City (New Zealand)
More spots remain open globally but rest assured there’s all to play!
